It’s Never Too Late to Ignite Your Spark: Finding Confidence, Purpose, and Joy in Midlife
Many women reach midlife and quietly ask themselves a question they rarely say out loud:
Is this all there is?
The career is established.
The kids may be grown.
Life has settled into a routine.
And yet something inside keeps whispering:
There is more.
In this episode of Your Radiant Spirit, I sat down with Kim Duff Selby, a former fashion director at Glamour Magazine and Saks Fifth Avenue who has spent decades helping women feel confident, seen, and expressive.
But what makes Kim’s story truly inspiring is what she chose to do later in life.
At 64 years old, she:
- Started a podcast
- Began acting again
- Started modeling
- Became a certified yoga instructor
- Built a brand helping women rediscover their confidence and joy
Her message is simple and powerful:
You are never too old to follow your spark.

Following the Spark You Felt as a Child
One of the most fascinating parts of our conversation was when Kim shared a simple question she asks the women she coaches:
What lit you up when you were seven years old?
When she was a child, Kim knew she wanted to be on stage.
She didn’t know exactly what that meant, but she knew she loved performing.
Like many of us, life took her on a different path first.
She worked in fashion, traveled the country speaking to women about beauty and style, and eventually ran her own fashion show production company for 20 years.
But underneath it all, the original spark was still there.
The desire to perform.
The desire to inspire.
The desire to connect with people.
Eventually, that spark found its way back into her life.
And that’s often how it works.
Your purpose doesn’t disappear.
It waits patiently until you are ready to listen.
The Biggest Limiting Belief Women Carry
During our conversation, Kim shared the most common belief she hears from women:
“I’m too old.”
Too old to start a new career.
Too old to follow a dream.
Too old to try something new.
But that belief isn’t rooted in truth.
It’s rooted in conditioning.
Many women were raised in environments where their value was tied to productivity, appearance, or caregiving roles.
So when life changes in midlife, it can feel like identity disappears.
Kim’s work focuses on helping women rebuild self-esteem and confidence so they can reconnect with what truly brings them joy.
And sometimes that begins with something very simple:
Changing the language you use about yourself.
The Power of “I Am”
Kim talked about the importance of shifting from “I am not” to “I am.”
Instead of saying:
- I am not good enough
- I am not creative
- I am not capable
She encourages women to anchor into what is already true.
For example:
- I am strong
- I am creative
- I am capable
- I am worthy
These statements are more than positive thinking.
Your body and nervous system respond to the thoughts you repeat.
When you embody new beliefs consistently, your brain begins to rewire around them.
And over time, your confidence starts to grow.
Why Gratitude Changes Everything
Another powerful theme from our conversation was gratitude.
Kim believes we need more conversations about gratitude and spirituality in everyday life.
Not as something abstract.
But as something practical.
Instead of small talk like:
“How are you?”
She suggests asking something deeper:
What are you grateful for today?
Gratitude shifts your attention.
It reminds your mind and body that there is goodness in your life right now.
And when you focus on what is working, your perspective begins to change.
Protecting Your Energy in a Noisy World
In today’s world, we are constantly consuming information.
News.
Social media.
Notifications.
Endless scrolling.
For sensitive and intuitive people, that can become overwhelming.
Kim shared that she intentionally limits the amount of news she consumes because she knows it affects her energy.
Instead, she focuses on things that bring her joy:
- movement and yoga
- creativity
- acting
- laughter
- meaningful conversations
Protecting your energy isn’t avoidance.
It’s awareness.
And when you protect your energy, you create more space for joy and creativity.
Authenticity Is Magnetic
One of the things lighting Kim up most right now is creating videos on TikTok.
Not perfectly curated content.
Just authentic moments of joy.
And the response has been powerful.
People tell her things like:
“I want to be you when I grow up.”
At first glance, that might seem like a simple compliment.
But what they’re really responding to is authenticity.
When someone shows up fully as themselves, it gives others permission to do the same.
And that kind of energy is contagious.

Why the World Needs Your Light
One of my favorite moments in the conversation was when Kim said something beautifully simple:
Everyone has a spark inside them.
And the world needs that spark.
When you follow what lights you up:
- your energy changes
- your creativity expands
- your confidence grows
You shine differently.
And that light has a ripple effect on everyone around you.
