Makarios—A Reflection of Divine Blessing

There’s a powerful word in Greek, Makarios, that translates to “blessed.” This word comes from the book of Matthew, and it goes far beyond the typical understanding of being blessed with material things. It’s a state of being—a deep sense of grace and divine love that fills our hearts and lives.

When I began painting Makarios, I wanted to capture this deeper, more spiritual meaning of blessing. To me, true blessings are not just about what we receive, but about the light we experience, the peace that fills us, and the endless love that holds us up. Makarios was created as a reflection of all of this—a visual blessing of love, light, and grace.

The Elements of Makarios
Every part of this painting was intentionally chosen to represent something sacred:

  • Gold & Silver: These metals aren’t just about shiny surfaces—they represent the divine light of God. Gold holds warmth, love, and the brilliance of grace, while silver brings in a sense of purity and calm stability.
  • Circles: Circles are a powerful symbol of eternity and wholeness. They are unbroken and infinite, just like the connection between us and the divine. In Makarios, the circles carry the message that God’s love is always surrounding us, and it never ends.
  • Colors: The colors in this piece reflect the warmth and peace of God’s lovingkindness. They’re meant to create a feeling of calm and invite you into a space of inner peace and reflection.

Blessed Beyond Measure
When I think about what it means to be blessed, I don’t just think about the “good” things that happen in my life. Yes, there are moments of joy, but I also know that blessings come in quieter, more subtle ways—through moments of stillness, through being present, and through recognizing God’s presence in the simplest of things.

In creating Makarios, I wanted to give that feeling—of being deeply and unconditionally blessed—through every color, every circle, and every shimmer of gold and silver. This painting is a reminder that God’s love is abundant and all-encompassing, that we are never far from it, and that we are always surrounded by grace.

How Are You Blessed?
When you look at Makarios, I invite you to think about what it means to be blessed in your own life. What are the quiet, sacred moments that fill you with a sense of peace and gratitude? How do you experience God’s loving presence, even in the midst of chaos or struggle?

Let’s connect. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this idea of blessing. What does it look like for you? Feel free to leave a comment or reach out to share your reflections.
